The Benefits of Home and Personal Cleansing
74
From time to time, you may find that your home seems stuffy, or a hotbed for negative emotion and feelings. Sometimes you may also feel like a weight is bearing down upon your shoulders or chest, causing the most mundane tasks to be difficult. In many religious beliefs this is because negative energy can build up, kind of like a clog in your sink drain. The oppression you feel gets stronger and stronger until you feel the universe is against you. At times this can also be brought about by simple words or actions from you or someone else that could be constituted as a curse of sorts. Either way, the one surefire way to get rid of this oppression is to cleanse your home, body and soul of negativity. This is not a difficult task and can be done in a as little as a couple of hours.
You may be asking, how can I cleanse myself and my home? Well, the method is mostly personal beliefs and choices. For example, a Catholic may want to call in their local priest for a house blessing while a pagan may want the smudge their home and body with sage. Whether you use holy water or sage, it is believed its the intent behind the cleansing that is the real driving force. While I cannot advise on a cleansing based on differing religions, I can offer up a general cleansing for anyone who feels this would be beneficial. Remember, cleansing should be done either weekly or monthly to ensure build-up of negative energies or emotions does not occur.
Cleansing your home
To cleanse your home, purchase some dried white or silver sage. These varieties are said to have not only cleansing but healing properties as well. White or silver sage can be purchased online or at an area metaphysical shoppe. If your in an area where there are Native American herbal shoppes, you can also find these varieties there. Clear out your home of everyone but yourself, unless your family is willing to help. This will require concentration and direct intent. If you buy the sage bundles, simply light the tip of the bundle and allow to smolder. If you have purchased the loose variety, place it into a heat safe container and light, also allowing to smolder. A lot of smoke from your sage is normal, don't worry. Starting at the open back door to your home, work your way counter-clockwise, also known as widdershins. The reason for this is because negative and evil influence is said to be undone when you move backwards. Allow the smoke from your sage to fill each corner, window, closet and cabinet. As you work your way around say something like "I banish all negativity and evil from here. Let only the positive remain." Now, this is just a suggestion. If you wish to banish in the name of your chosen god or goddess, you may do so. Once you are finished, you will end up back at your starting point. Close the door to your home, to lock out the negativity that you have just removed. Avoid using this door for 24 to 48 hours after your cleansing.
To Cleanse your Person
To cleanse yourself is similar to cleansing your home, only you are not working with a large space. For a personal cleansing it is best to limit the number of people in the room with you to one or none. This will require concentration and good visualization skills. Some call this a spell but in actuality it is not. Light your sage as before, allowing the smoke to envelope your body. Close your eyes and see yourself being covered in positive light and negative energies being pushed down and removed through your feet deep into the ground. You can repeat the phrasing used before, only tailored to your personal space instead of your home. Again, if you have a certain religious belief, you may institute it into your cleansing. Once you feel thoroughly cleansed, open your eyes and take in three deep breathes before extinguishing your sage.
These are both general methods that can be made to fit any religious belief of your choosing. In my experience, the feeling around and within after a cleansing is incredible. When done properly you will notice you feel lighter and more comfortable in your own home. Good luck and may you be blessed in all you do.
